GAYLA'S BLOG
If you are reading “Dog Bytes” you have come to our new Riverbend website. Welcome! I am honored to be the first Pet contributor. I hope that all of you, be you human or other, will write back to me anytime you have news or concerns about our neighborhood. In addition to items of general interest, I intend to use this space to write about issues of health and safety, the latest in pet perks, and of course our party calendar.
Just now I am thinking about summer. Ah summer! We pets love the warmer months and the additional time outside. Some advise: When your owners give you mosquito and tick medication, stand still and don’t cough it out. They know what they are doing. When your water dish is empty, go to your owner and give three sharp barks. The humans love summer too, especially the Summer Picnic. They hold it on the South Lawn. We all know the South Lawn as a space some of us use for non-recreational purposes. Naturally that is why they put the green bag dispenser/disposal there. I want to remind you that generally, humans are rather sensitive about walking through anything we might have left behind, so please be especially courteous and, if the need arises, go to the bag dispenser and whine until your owner picks up your poop. Yes, sometimes they need prompting but, it is the right thing to do.
Now on to matters of style…have you seen the latest in LED collars? They are oh-so-perfect for staying “visible and safe” on later in the day, darkish walks. You can get them in red, blue, gold, green and yellow. The humans didn’t know we could distinguish color….well they didn’t ask did they? But, let’s try to be patient with their research. Recently they found that our eyes do have cones for color perception. Newsflash, they’ve also done a study on the “serious benefits of play” to which I ask: What about the comic benefits of play? Like when you take your human to the park. What a riot to watch them run and try to jump into the air to catch a Frisbee in their mouth! One final thing: Summer is a good time to work off those extra winter pounds we put on. The experts say all dogs should have a “waist.” Well, somewhere under my fur coat, I’m sure mine is still the girlish 16” I had as a teenager.
So, doggies and all readers, that’s “it” for now. I hope you will write to me at [email protected] or start our conversation on my blog (click on picture).
